Indecision IV - Polyphony Welsh Chapel, London in May 2018

Commission work and artistic response to Maria Kreyn’s painting Indecision III.

Talking place as a part of Heist Gallery’s Polyphony exhibition the concept was created originally as an experiential piece whereby the audience in the gallery setting partake in a multi sensory experience. An emotional response was then created through the tools of choreography, performance, lighting and vibration elevated by live sound mixing in collaboration with David Triana whereby a small audience was invited to ‘become a part of the art.’

Various sound channels were captured live and streamed to the participants’ sound cancelling headphones, encapsulating them in their own experience. Sounds which were created by the dancer, his sand paper edged shoes, ambient sounds in the chapel, movement of the participants and vibrations upon the bespoke platform and seats created for the performance became instruments of sound feed.

Every layer of the experience and acoustics have been considered and paved the way and the build up in intensity of the choreography where our protagonist weaves his way through the crowd and the myriad of emotions.

The intention was for our protagonist to venture through different senses of his feminine and masculine self, challenging the inner struggles and the journey til a final resting place of transcendence.

“It’s the tragic beauty of our individuality that we can connect with one another profoundly, yet not fully know each other while silently fight ones inner demons and voices. The sense of being alone together is a human quality we all seem to face.”
